The Passerelle Trail in Mazamet: Longer, Higher, More Beautiful!

Hello trail and outdoor adventure enthusiasts!

Get ready to live an unforgettable sporting experience during the Trail de la Passerelle in Mazamet. This intercommunal trail, which returns for its 6th edition on October 6 , promises you breathtaking panoramas and physical challenges to match your ambitions. With courses that wind along the steep slopes of the summit of the Montagne Noire, this race will make you discover landscapes that are both majestic and wild, for a unique moment of communion with nature.

A Trail in an Exceptional Setting

The Montagne Noire, a true jewel of the southwest of France, is the ideal playground for trail running enthusiasts. This massif, which marks the transition between the mountains of the Massif Central and the Languedoc plain, offers an impressive diversity of landscapes: from dense forests to rocky ridges, green valleys and panoramic views of the Mediterranean on a clear day.

The Footbridge Trail owes its name to the famous Mazamet footbridge, a suspension bridge offering a spectacular view of the Arnette valley. This iconic passage is a highlight of the race, where each step on the footbridge is a moment suspended between heaven and earth.

The Passerelle Trail Routes

This year, four courses are offered, each adapted to different levels of practice and ambition. Whether you are a seasoned trailer looking for an extreme challenge or a runner wishing to enjoy the landscapes while testing yourself, you will find what you are looking for among these options:

  • L'Aussillon – 12 km – 650 D+ : With a scheduled departure at 11am, this course is ideal for beginners or those who want to learn trail running in a splendid setting. Don't let its relatively short distance fool you: the 650 metres of positive elevation gain will make you feel the effort on each climb. This course offers a perfect introduction to trail running, with technical passages and breathtaking views of the region.
  • The Mountains – 20 km – 1,000 D+ : This course, with a 10am start, is designed for intermediate trail runners. With a distance of 20 km and a positive elevation gain of 1,000 metres, it will take you through dense forests and up ridges offering breathtaking views of the valley. It is a challenge that is both technical and rewarding, which will allow you to test your limits while enjoying the magnificent landscapes of the Montagne Noire.
  • Mazamet – 29 km – 1,650 D+ : Departure scheduled for 9am for this course which is starting to approach marathon distances. With its 29 km and 1,650 meters of elevation gain, this trail is intended for experienced runners. The climbs are tough, the descents technical, and each stride brings you closer to a landscape even more spectacular than the last. This course is perfect for those looking for a real physical challenge, with the reward of breathtaking views of the entire region, all the way to the Mediterranean in good weather.
  • Le Nore – 61 km – 3,000 D+ : This is the ultimate route, reserved for the most hardened trailers. With a departure at 7am, this 61km trail with 3,000 metres of elevation gain will take you up the highest and steepest slopes of the Montagne Noire. It is a long-term challenge that will test your endurance, resilience and mental strength. In return, you will be rewarded with breathtaking landscapes, particularly from the Pic de Nore, the highest point of the Montagne Noire. This course is a real adventure, a test where each runner will have the opportunity to surpass themselves in an exceptional natural setting.

An Immersive Experience in Nature

The Trail de la Passerelle is not just a race; it is a complete immersion in nature, a moment where time seems to stop to make way for the raw beauty of the landscapes. Each route has been designed to help you discover the wonders of the region, from dense forests to bare ridges, passing by picturesque villages and historical sites.

The passage over the Mazamet footbridge is one of the most memorable moments of the race. Suspended 70 meters above the void, this footbridge offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding valleys. It is a moment of pure magic, where the silence of the mountain is interrupted only by the breath of the runners and the sound of their footsteps on the metal. This passage symbolizes the very essence of trail running: a balance between intense physical effort and the contemplation of natural beauty.

How to Prepare for the Passerelle Trail?

Participating in the Trail de la Passerelle requires rigorous preparation, both physically and mentally.

Here are some tips for approaching this race in the best possible conditions:

  1. Trail-specific training : Incorporate uphill and downhill running sessions into your training routine. The Montagne Noire is known for its steep slopes and technical trails, so get used to running on uneven terrain. Strength training sessions focused on your legs and core will help you tackle the hills without breaking down.
  2. Plan your supplies : With distances up to 38 miles, nutrition and hydration management is crucial. Plan your refreshments around checkpoints along the course. Consider carrying energy gels, granola bars, and electrolyte drinks to keep your energy levels up throughout the race.
  3. Acclimatize to the weather conditions : The weather can be unpredictable in the mountains, with significant temperature variations between morning and afternoon. Check the weather forecast before the race and plan appropriate clothing: a waterproof jacket, gloves, and a thermal layer may be essential depending on the conditions.
  4. Prepare yourself mentally : Trail running is as much a physical sport as it is mental. Prepare yourself to face moments of doubt and fatigue. Visualize the course, the difficult moments and the key passages such as the footbridge. Remember that each difficulty overcome brings you closer to the finish and the satisfaction of having taken on an exceptional challenge.

Sports breakfasts

This weekend we had the pleasure of welcoming two great sports teams on the occasion of the Black Mountain trail.

The Black Mountain, in the heart of the Black Mountain, offers different levels of racing, to offer everyone an event that meets everyone's personal challenge.

From the hero race (1 km) for the little ones, to the 63 km Coupo Cambo race, there is something for everyone.

So that our heroes of the day are well prepared the morning of their departure, at La Grande Maison, our housekeeper prepares a suitable breakfast. Because it's not just the meal the night before to adapt.

We adapt of course to breakfast times, and yes breakfast is available for 4am, it's possible!

We share with you the recipes for these sports cakes, ultra easy to reproduce at home, established by Nicolas Aubineau (sports dietitian).

The sports cake (or energy cake) is a product used by many athletes before a race (marathon, triathlon, trail, cyclo, etc.).

How to eat a sports cake before a race?

For optimized assimilation and digestion, it is advisable to consume the energy cake at least 2 hours before the race. Nicolas Aubineau advises having breakfast 3 hours before the race and eating small pieces of sports cake up to 1h30 before the start. Then, stop at the solid for reasons of digestibility and therefore of transit for the most sensitive. The waiting or effort drink during the warm-up takes over.

If you want to go deeper into the subject, we recommend that you read the complete site on the subject.

In terms of recipes, here are the ones we offer when you stay with us at the dawn of an intense sports race.

Nicolas Aubineau sports sweet cake recipe

  • 300 g of white flour,
  • 400 ml of UHT sterilized semi-skimmed milk,
  • 150 g of honey,
  • 20 g dried apricots, pitted,
  • 20 g of dried figs,
  • 20 g of prunes,
  • 60 g of raisins,
  • 1 tablespoon of combined oil (mixture of oils),
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon ground almond.

For all the details and energy values: Sweet sports cake

Nicolas AUBINEAU savory sports cake recipe

  • 1 tablespoon ground walnuts,
  • 1 teaspoon of curry powder,
  • 2 tablespoons of dried basil,
  • 0.5g of fleur de sel.
